Lindsay Palmer — Finding Purpose in Community

When Lindsay Palmer first walked through the doors of Pine Street Inn, she never expected the profound impact it would have on her life. “I have always been passionate about community,” she shares. Now, with five years of experience at Pine Street, Lindsay reflects fondly on her journey, “I have loved it ever since.”
In her role as a housing placement supervisor, Lindsay oversees case managers at the Men’s Inn and Holy Family shelters. Her team’s focus is on helping guests overcome barriers and move toward housing with support. “The main goal is housing, but it’s also about everything that comes before that,” Lindsay says. “We help people address challenges, such as obtaining an ID or receiving financial aid, while building trust with them throughout the process.”
What brings Lindsay the most joy are the connections she makes within the community. “I love chatting with people and hearing their stories,” she shares. “I never would have anticipated the community I’ve found here — the colleagues I work with, the leadership I’ve learned from and the shelter guests I’ve had the privilege to support.”
Her empathy is rooted in personal perspective. “I can see how easily someone’s life can change based on one or two choices or circumstances beyond their control,” Lindsay says. This awareness shapes her approach. “I always try to talk to people like a neighbor,” she explains. “I don’t try to fix anyone. When they realize that I’m genuinely going to show up for them, that builds a powerful connection.”
Looking back on her experience, Lindsay shares, “I’ve been given opportunities I never imagined. That sense of purpose is why I’m here, and it’s why I stay.”
