Amanda Proctor — Compassion in Action

Amanda Proctor is the clinical supervisor for veterans outreach. She manages a team that includes a clinician and case managers who help homeless veterans access services, connect with benefits and secure housing. “As a child, I told my parents that I wanted to live at home and make cookies for people experiencing homelessness,” Amanda recalls.

Amanda’s passion for helping others blossomed in college while volunteering with the Boston Rescue Mission. After earning her master’s degree in social work, she began her career with HopeFound before it merged with Pine Street Inn.

“In my role, I meet people during the worst time of their lives,” Amanda explains. “I show people the love and care that they may never have experienced.”

While many moments in her career stand out, Amanda recalls one that particularly resonated with her: “I had a deep conversation with a client about the meaning of love. This person wasn’t sure that they knew what real love was.

“During our conversation, I was able to provide examples from the relationship we had built over the months we worked together. That exchange was a reminder of how the work my team and I do makes a difference in people’s lives.”

For Amanda, treating people with compassion is essential in helping them overcome the challenges they face. “People will forget what you did. People will forget what you said,” she says. “But people will always remember how you made them feel.”
