Christian Petit-Frere — A Bridge to a Brighter Future

For Christian Petit-Frere, supporting someone through one of the hardest chapters of their life begins with something simple: helping them feel seen. “I want tenants to know that I hear them and see them,” Christian says.

As a case manager at The Lyndia, Pine Street Inn’s largest residence in Jamaica Plain, Christian helps tenants build a foundation for a more stable future. He walks alongside them as they settle into housing, connect with resources and take steps toward greater independence.

Christian’s approach is rooted in lessons he learned long before joining Pine Street. “My mother taught me the importance of caring, listening and sharing,” he says. “She also taught me that family isn’t just the one you’re born into; it’s the family you choose.”

Those values shaped both his life and career. “I chose to work at Pine Street because it’s an organization that truly cares,” says Christian. “It cares about its shelter guests, workforce development trainees, housing tenants and staff. The people I work with have become part of my chosen family.”

Christian also brings personal understanding to his role. “I grew up in a family that struggled financially, so I understand many of the challenges our tenants face,” he says. “I see myself as a bridge, helping people get from one place to another. Sometimes people just need someone to help them navigate the systems.”

Every day, Christian works alongside tenants as they rebuild their lives, celebrating milestones, navigating obstacles and reminding them they do not have to do it alone. “When people know someone is listening and believes in them, it can make all the difference,” Christian says. “That’s what I hope to provide.”
