National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month
What does it mean to have a home where you can welcome family and friends, especially as we approach the holiday season? We may not give it much thought, but when you’re without a home, it’s on your mind all the time.
In November, Pine Street Inn marks National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month.
In the United States, there are 580,000 people on the streets and in shelters. While Boston has a relatively low number of unsheltered people, there are over 1,500 homeless individuals with no home — even one person is too many.
There is no one simple answer to why people become homeless, and no one size fits all solution. At Pine Street Inn, we work every day to move individuals off the street, out of shelter and back to a home and community.
As we think about what we are thankful for, let’s share our compassion with our vulnerable neighbors who are experiencing homelessness, and work toward a world where everyone has a safe, secure place to live.
