National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month
What does it mean to have a home? It means safety, stability and community. However, when you’re without a home, those basic needs feel out of reach.
Each November, we recognize National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month, a time to bring special awareness and find solutions to these issues.
In 2025, Boston’s homeless census counted more than 5,000 adults and children without a home, including 132 unsheltered individuals living on the street.
With a street homelessness rate of less than 2.5%, Boston continues to have one of the lowest unsheltered rates in the country. At the same time, these numbers are an important reminder that even one person without a safe place to stay is too many.
Homelessness is a complex issue, with no one-size-fits-all solution. At Pine Street Inn, staff work every day to move individuals off the street, out of shelter and back to a home and community.
As we reflect on what we are thankful for, let’s share our compassion with our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness and work toward a world where everyone has a safe, secure place to live.
