Our friends and supporters who donate their time and talents play an essential role in our efforts to end homelessness. We are grateful to be joined by more than 5,000 volunteers every year, ranging from corporate, civic and faith-based organizations to individuals and groups of friends and families. Volunteer opportunities are available at our shelter and housing locations throughout Greater Boston.

To Our Dedicated Volunteers

Pine Street Inn is grateful for the support of our volunteers, 365 days a year. We are also concerned for everyone’s health and safety. Given the situation surrounding COVID-19, we have made the decision to suspend all onsite volunteer activities and food donations until further notice.

For more information and to learn how you can support us in these unprecedented times, please visit www.pinestreetinn.org/covid19

Again, our thanks for your interest and service.

 Please contact volunteer@pinestreetinn.org with questions.

What Pine Street is doing:

  • We have added a second layer of cleaning in all our buildings from an outside company that does deep cleaning.
  • We are advising staff to be in touch with Health Care for the Homeless, who run onsite clinics, if anyone comes in with symptoms and or has traveled to the specific countries/locations the CDC has noted.
  • We are advising everyone about correct handwashing and are making hand sanitizer available throughout our buildings.
  • We are advising guests if they have symptoms to go to the onsite clinic.  We are also reminding them about handwashing and have installed handwashing stations in all our locations with both soap and water and hand sanitizer

What you can do:

  • Stay home if you feel ill.
  • Wash your hands frequently, with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your cough and sneeze with something other than your bare hand—a tissue or your elbow.
  • Clean frequently touched items, including phones, door handles and tabletops with disinfecting wipes.
  • If you have recently traveled to an affected geographic area (currently China, Iran, Italy, Japan, South Korea) in the past 14 days, or any new area in the United States determined by the CDC or the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to have been affected, or if you have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, contact your doctor for advice.

Pine Street is closely monitoring the situation and is in regular communication with public health agencies, including the Boston Public Health Commission and Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Thank you again for your support. We will send out updates as the situation unfolds.

Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, and a soul generated by love.
