Britney — Building a Solid Future

Growing up, Britney had a good home life, being raised by her godmother after her mother passed away. When she was in her late twenties, Britney’s godmother also passed away, and she became depressed. Britney’s mental health issues led to her developing a substance use disorder.
“I chose to come to Boston to focus on my recovery,” says Britney. “I was living with friends, but I did not have a place of my own. I ended up staying in a sober house to help with my recovery. One day, my case manager told me about Pine Street Inn’s workforce development program.”
With previous restaurant experience, Britney knew Pine Street would present an opportunity to her. “I have worked as a host at a restaurant, but I wanted to learn new skills in culinary,” she says. “I wanted to broaden my marketability and help build a solid future.”
“It took me a while to settle into the program, but I love it. I’m so thankful to be part of it,” Britney says. “Pine Street’s staff are fantastic, and my co-workers are supportive. The chefs challenge us to be successful and perform at a high level in a busy kitchen.”
Now in recovery for more than one year, Britney has recently accepted a position at the Cheesecake Factory and is working with Pine Street to secure housing. She will celebrate her accomplishments at Pine Street’s workforce development graduation this month.
