Amilton — Focus On Your Dreams

Amilton worked as an assistant manager at a restaurant before switching to a career in construction. “I never thought that I would be homeless. I worked hard to support my family,” says Amilton. However, when he and his wife separated, Amilton moved out of their shared home to live with a friend who owned a rental property.
“I became homeless when my friend decided to sell the property and move out of Boston,” Amilton says. “I didn’t have a place to go, so he recommended that I come to Pine Street Inn for shelter.”
“Pine Street gave me a place to stay when I needed it,” says Amilton. At the Men’s Inn, he enrolled in the iCater food services job training program, drawing on his extensive food services experience to further develop his skills in the field and seek employment.
“Since coming to Pine Street, my life has changed for the better,” says Amilton, who worked with staff to secure housing at Pine Street’s newest and largest residence in Jamaica Plain. “Now, I have a great apartment where I feel safe. The staff are good to work with, and I’m looking for a job. I feel free here.”
“Pine Street is second to none. It’s a special place,” concludes Amilton. “Life can be hard but never give up. Always be persistent and focus on your dreams.”
