Job Training & Placement
Each year, approximately 125 men and women graduate from Pine Street’s job training programs. Participants learn both the vocational skills and the attitudinal skills needed to find and maintain employment.
Approximately 40 percent of individuals who complete job training programs move on to find employment at a livable, working wage or enter further training and internship programs. Recent employers of Pine Street job training and readiness program graduates include: YMCA, Zoo New England, the Intermission Tavern, ServisAir, Guckenheimers Catering, New World Security, Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, WBZ-TV, The Vitamin Shoppe, Joe’s Bar & Grill, Bertucci’s, South End House of Pizza, KSM Staffing, Winthrop Yacht Club and Babson College.
Food Services Training Program
Pine Street’s Food Services Training Program, founded in 1990, prepares nearly 100 men and women annually for employment in the food services industry. The course is divided into two training sessions: Cafeteria Operations and Kitchen Preparation.
Students receive both classroom and practical education in customer service, menu preparation, kitchen safety, food sanitation, weights and measurements, deli/cafeteria operations, salad bar preparation and food production. Students work with Pine Street's chefs and professional culinary staff to prepare 2,000 meals each day, and also gain experience serving customers in Pine Street’s staff cafeteria.

Building Maintenance Training Program
Each year, BMTP trains more than 35 men from Pine Street’s transitional shelter programs in building maintenance. During the 10-week program, trainees learn “hard skills”— including floor care, basic carpentry — as well as “soft” skills, such as showing up on time, professionalism, team work and managing responsibilities.

IMPACT Employment Services
IMPACT Employment Services, located in Downtown Crossing, provides specialized employment services, including assessment, counseling, placement and job retention for close to 500 job-seeking homeless men and women.

Graduation Ceremony
Every spring, Pine Street hosts a graduation ceremony for the men and women who have completed Pine Street’s job training programs over the prior year. Students wear caps and gowns, receive certificates of completion and invite family members and friends to celebrate their accomplishment. For many, the event is the first graduation the students have experienced.
