Job Training at Pine Street Inn

In the past year, more than 125 homeless and formerly homeless men and women have completed the STRIVE job readiness course or a job training program in food services or building maintenance. These Pine Street programs, offered since 1990, provide students with concrete job skills, attitudinal training, and assistance in securing and maintaining employment.

Keynote Speaker

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, the Commonwealth’s first African American governor, was elected in November, 2006. He brings to the Governor’s office a broad range of leadership experience at the top levels of business, government, and non-profits.

The first in his family to receive any education beyond high school, Patrick graduated from Harvard University, and then traveled to Africa, where he worked for a United Nations youth training program in Darfur. He subsequently returned to Massachusetts to attend Harvard Law School.

Patrick has held positions at the NAACP Legal Defense fund, the law firm Hill & Barlow, the U.S. Department of Justice, Texaco and the Coca Cola Company.

As Governor, he has pledged to increase accessibility to government and encourage civic engagement to achieve progress on education, health care, economic development and other issues.
